I will review your draft and provide you with a revised version with all changes explained, or I can write your CV or job application from basic information which you provide, such as your skills and employment history plus answers to questions about the job. I will use my experience of recruiting to remove anything likely to detract and to present your information in the most effective way.
Support for job seekers
If you want to improve your chances of success with job applications I can provide advice and support. This could be general advice or specific preparation for a particular job. Thorough preparation makes a big difference, as any experienced recruiter will tell you. Judith Coslett HR consultant Guildford
My rates for individuals are cheaper than for organisations – £60 per hour. We can agree in advance a fixed amount for the support you need so that you are always in control of the costs. If you are applying for a job that will give you a £5,000 increase in salary, £240 of interview practice could be a good investment.
Many people contact me when they’ve been offered an interview for a job they’re really keen to get. Typically we spend 2 hours on an interview coaching session which starts with a mock interview for that job, then general feedback, then a discussion of each question developing a stronger answer based on the client’s experience. I then spend an hour and a half after the session, fine tuning some model answers for each of the questions likely to be asked in the real interview and email this to the client for further practice.
Sometimes I get involved at an earlier stage, writing a CV or application for a specific job and securing an interview for the client. Often this will lead into interview coaching, but you can choose what support you want.
Comments from job seekers Judith has helped
Change of career
I wanted to move into a different career. Judith helped me identify transferable skills from my old type of work and put together an application for a new job. I got an interview, so I went back to Judith for interview coaching. She wrote interview questions based on the job description I showed her and helped me prepare good answers to them. We then had several practice interviews, with her giving me feedback each time. I felt really prepared and confident when I went for the real interview and was delighted when I got the job.
Returning from a career break
I’d taken a break from work to have a family and it had been a long time since I’d done a job application. I wasn’t sure what information to include, plus English is not my first language and I wanted to get it right. She helped me to view my achievements and tailor my CV according to the jobs I was applying for. Her advice was spot on preparing for the interviews and it gave me confidence that I was really giving myself the best chance of success with my job applications.
I wanted to earn more money, but didn’t really enjoy being a manager, which seemed to be part of most jobs with better pay. Judith searched on various job sites and identified a number of jobs for me to consider. I chose two and she wrote CVs and applications for me, explaining to me why she had presented the information in the way she had. I got interviews for both jobs.
Making my passion my career
I realised that I no longer enjoyed the type of work I had been doing for 10 years and wanted to make a career of an interest I pursued in my spare time, which I loved. I went to Judith for help with making the move and finding a way of presenting it on a CV. She designed a suitable CV for me and gave me advice on what sort of roles might suit me, where I could look for these and how to get the most from recruitment agencies. I’m really excited about making the move.
Multiple job offers
Judith re-designed my CV, which captured the attention of a number of leading employers, securing me job interviews and job offers. I also benefited from the interview coaching which Judith provided. Her professional, strategic approach helped me during the whole process. I would certainly use her again.
Nerves after redundancy
I am so glad that I used Judith’s services and I have recommended her to several of my friends. I was made redundant two years ago and since then I have struggled with getting jobs. I had no problem getting interviews but when it came to the interview I found that I became nervous and this affected my communication and performance which was frustrating for me. Judith took the time to come up with lots of possible questions and coached me through some cracking answers that meant that I could really get my message across about my experience, knowledge and abilities for the role. This increased my confidence and helped with my nerves. I have just been offered a job and I am ecstatic! I know that I couldn’t have done it without Judith’s support. So in terms of investment, if you are hesitating and thinking ‘am I worth it’? the answer is ‘yes, you are’ – go for it!
