How can you improve team performance?

Identifying the issues.

Sometimes a team is not functioning very well, but it’s not clear why.  Having an external person review the situation can help pinpoint the problems.  Allowing team members to talk to an external, independent person can encourage a greater degree of openness about issues.

Psychometric profiling.

Psychometrics such as the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) can help identify key differences within the team which may be causing conflict.  Explaining these differences and what they bring to the team can help increase acceptance and adapted behaviour.

Team role profiling.

Identifying what role each person takes within a team environment can highlight problem areas – such as too many people trying to be the leader.  Looking at what role each team member can perform best, can create a more balanced and effective team.

Workshops.

One day or half day workshops can provide an important opportunity for teams to talk about how they work together and how they could improve.  This hardly ever happens unless time is specifically set aside for it.  Having an external facilitator can help everyone feel able to make a contribution and stop any one person from dominating discussions.

Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision. The ability to direct individual accomplishments toward organisational objectives. It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results.
